ABSTRACT:
To facilitate comparative neuroanatomical study, we are introducing into our online atlases of brains of humans and various animal species, a search facility for accessing comparable images from two or more species. When completely developed and installed, users may select any neuroanatomical feature that is labeled in any of the atlases, then use the search capability to find that feature in any of the other atlases. In addition to feature, the plane of section and the stain used for a particular image may be preselected in the search process. We will be demonstrating an early phase of the development of the procedures, in hopes of gaining guidance and suggestions for further development for prospective users. This tool should be helpful not only for studies of comparative neurology, but also for educational and clinical use in comparing findings in animal research species with comparable structures in human brains.
BENEFIT TO
PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:
Participants will benefit by obtaining an early look at an already online, but still developing, tool for education and research, and by having an opportunity to shape the further development of the tools to meet their own educational, clinical and research needs. Come and let us know what features you would like to see included in this means of comparing the neuroanatomical details of animal and human brains with one another.
