ABSTRACT:
Several initiatives
(e.g., HEAL, Project LIVE, AAMC Virtual Patient Cases) are coalescing to
identify criteria and procedures that could be applied for peer review of
multimedia materials in medical education. A session is planned at each of the
four GEA regional meetings in 2004 as a vehicle for informing interested
medical educators and systematically gathering stakeholder input to facilitate
a common language and set of core expectations for high quality medical
education multimedia materials. These activities are the result of initiatives
of a Special Interest Group that recently formed. This SIG is interested in
articulating a peer review process for medial education multimedia materials
that can be standardized and applied in a variety of settings
At this breakout
session, the consensus results gathered at the GEA regional meetings will be
summarized, participants will be asked to provide further input on key issues
related to peer review criteria, and participants will discuss incentives,
challenges, and concerns related to the development, adoption, and
implementation of peer review criteria and procedures.
