ABSTRACT:

As PDA devices become a more permanent feature in our computing landscape they offer some unique opportunities and challenges. The breakout session will serve as a forum to discuss the social and HCI aspects of PDA use in the educational environment. The topics will include but not be limited to:

1.      Group versus student purchase.

2.      Integration in basic and clinical years

3.      Hardware and Software support, implications for institutional IT staff

4.      Data collection

5.      Abuses and misuses (trying to force a square electronic device through a round hole)

BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:

This breakout will allow those of us who are facing the challenge of incorporation of PDA devices into the curriculum to have a frank exchange of views. We will discuss our methods and learn from each other’s successes and mistakes.
