ABSTRACT:

In 1996 the International Continence Society accepted the POP Q, a standardized quantitative description of pelvic organ position in women. It allows accurate observations of the stability or prolapse over time by the same or different observers. To get a more widespread knowledge of different types of pelvic organ prolapse and a general acceptance of POP Q by gynecologists, trainee doctors, physiotherapists and medical students we developed an attractive clinical instruction program. It links videotaped physical examinations of the external genitalia and vaginal canal with schematic drawings of normal- and prolapse anatomy and POP Q diagrams. The theoretical background is presented in short chapters. Throughout the program text- or graphic questions and answers are included. We evaluated the usefulness of the application by examining the knowledge of three medical students before and after working with a prototype of the program: they all improved considerably. The graphics of the program were made by a first year industrial design student and we want to present "How to do a POP Q" for the student competition.

BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:

The Pelvic Organ Position Quantification is a new clinical method that needs to be more generally known to become effective. How To Do A POP Q is designed to get familiar with the method fast. The smooth integration of video, graphics and diagrams interlaced with self-estimation questions and answers makes this possible for a wide audience of medical professionals
