ABSTRACT:

The eradication of TB or any disease for that matter depends on a committed and trained manpower resource base capable of technically implementing the treatment strategies. This study is being carried out as an innovation in TB education through the development of a simulation game for directly observed therapy, short-course (DOTS). Called HEALTHCITY, the role-playing simulation game hopes to represent real-life details of its implementation with medical students and faculty members assuming different roles and working towards achieving game objectives. Players increase or decrease their scores through random events, opportunities, decisions and test of knowledge.

BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:

Participants will see the process by which domain concepts are translated into a generic game engine. They will learn best practice and lessons learned in developing an educational web-based simulation game for Directly Observed Therapy, Short Course (DOTS). It allows medical students to virtually experience in first-person-perspective the views of physician, patient, and DOTS partner by playing different roles.
