Reusable Learning Objectsat the chalk-face: use and evaluation of RLOs in a blended learning environment

Heather Wharrad

University of Nottingham, England

ABSTRACT:

The Universities' Collaboration in eLearning (UCeL) is a community of practice successfully creating, embedding and evaluating reusable learning objects (RLOs) in UK Health Professional education. This demonstration commences with an example of a RLO - Levels of Measurement - and shows how it has been used effectively as part of a blended learning programme by various cohorts of students.

This is followed by a presentation of results from recent student evaluations. A lively discussion session on reusability of eLearning resources in health professional education will also be facilitated.

BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:

Reusable learning objects (RLOs) are attracting much attention in the Health Professional education arena, but what exactly are they and why should educators want to incorporate them into their teaching and learning practice? if you'vee ever wanted to know the answers to these questions, look no further! The presentation begins with a demonstration of an interactive RLO and then takes an in depth look at recent student evaluations. A lively discussion session on the merits and pitfalls of RLOs in practice will ensue.
