ABSTRACT:

PROMETHEUS is an instruction and learning platform for medical education presenting itself in the form of a hospital case simulation. It is a database-driven web application for medical students and faculty of the University of Tübingen in cooperation with eight leading German Universities. Built around SQL server databases (MySQL) and driven by Java programming this application enables students and faculty to interview and examine authentic, virtual patients.  The objective is the improvement of medical education and the development of some expertise by the user. A virtual expert and self-explanatory navigational tools support the user. An Internet Cafe offers tools for discussion and reflective learning. A web-based evaluation questionnaire supports the collection of evaluation data.  In addition to problem-based learning, the embedded virtual library allows systematic learning.  Prometheus provides an examination tool, which has been developed in conjunction with t an OSCE. The actions of the user are documented and evaluated according to the requests of the teacher.

BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:

The virtual Clinic is an online repository of course documents, cases and evaluation for students and staff. We will present a short inauguration and will introduce you to our evaluation strategy. A short demonstration of the examination tool will complete the presentation.
