Dorine Borensztajn
Academic Medical Center, University of Amsterdam

ABSTRACT:

PDA’s are more and more used in a medical setting and in medical education. Many developers and end-users are, however, unfamiliar with this new technology. In this workshop we will start with an introduction to PDA’s. We will discuss the pros and cons of different types of PDA’s (palm and pocket PC). We will further discuss how PDA’s can be used in the medical setting and medical education and show you examples of existing applications. This session is meant for anyone in the medical field who is interested in using PDA’s and would like an introduction to the possibilities of this new medium. This will be a lecture/demo with lots of questions and answers. Emulator software will permit the projection of the small PDA screen onto the large projection screen so all can see.

BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:

This workshop is meant to be an introduction to PDA’s. It is thus designed for anyone in the medical field who is interested in assessing the potential of PDA’s for training and education and would like to learn more about this new technology. At the end of the session a selection of the applications, which were demonstrated, will be offered on CD.
