Reusable Learning Objects the easy way: how to make high quality e-Learning content

Dawn Leeder & Howard Chase, University of Cambridge, England

ABSTRACT:

Have you ever wanted to convert some of your subject expertise into a valued eLearning resource? Perhaps not known where to start? Heard a little about “reusable learning objects” (RLOs) but don’t know what they are?
Then you may be interested this acclaimed workshop designed to demystify the processes and give you practical hands-on experience of making these engaging “chunks” of eLearning:

This one-day hands-on workshop introduces participants to the principles of reusability and actively engages them in content creation. Participants are invited to bring and demonstrate examples of their own experiments with and uses of RLOs by bringing them either on CD-ROM or memory-stick. Tangible workshop outcomes will be a set of specifications for reusable learning objects, digitally archived to the UCeL website. Examples of specifications produced at previous workshops can be seen at www.ucel.ac.uk/workshops

An example produced from a previous workshop and being successfully used and re-used across the UK is Levels of measurement . This, along with other RLOs, will also be demonstrated by Heather Wharrad during the Friday afternoon session in Leiden.
