The Use of Portable Devices (PDAs and Smart Phones) and
Wireless Networks for Information Management and Teaching.

ABSTRACT:
Many medical schools
have been using PDAs for content delivery, with various degrees of success.
This session aims to gather the experiences of participants in the use of
mobile devices for teaching, learning and research. A summary of the lessons
learned by the National University of Singapore in handheld device usage will
be discussed.
Of particular
interests are the use of PDAs and smart phones as
1. a
voice recorder.
2. an
e-book and document reader of various formats.
3. an
audio book player.
4. a
camera and video recorder.
5. a
presentation tool.
6. an
internet access tool using wired or wireless connections.
BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:
Participants will
share ideas on the range of mobile devices available and the advantages of
their usage in information management and e-learning. Mobile application
options will be explored, with audience comments on their feasibility. At the
end of the session, it is anticipated that applications for handhelds can be
identified for further development and possible collaborative efforts.
