What is a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) Feed, and Why Would I Want to Subscribe to It?

ABSTRACT:

 

This breakout is for those who want to learn about RSS (Really Simple Syndication) and why they should be interested in it.  RSS is an XML standard for packaging information into a file which is commonly used for syndication. By collecting and combining RSS files, applications can bring together up-to-date information from a wide cross-section of the internet.  Discussion will cover how RSS feeds can be used, in general, and how it can be used in the field of health sciences and education.  This breakout will also examine different ways RSS can be used or extended by content providers.  Practical experience using or producing RSS feeds is welcomed.  This breakout may extend into a technical discussion, but is mainly intended as a discourse on how RSS can be practically used.

 

BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:

The participant will learn what RSS is, and discuss the pros and cons of syndicating information using RSS.
