Approaches to Protecting the Privacy of Patients in Educational Multimedia

ABSTRACT:

 

Many Slicers create multimedia that may contain patient information. Recent legislation in the US and Europe require that developers take steps to protect the privacy of patients.  In this breakout session we will give examples of how patient privacy can be protected and how valid consent from patients can be obtained.

·        Examples of multimedia that disclose "protected health information" (PHI).

·        Examples of horror stories.

·        ï Implication of HIPAA for education multimedia in the US.

·        ï What are the pitfalls?

·        What are the implications of recent privacy laws for international collaboration such as SOL?

·        How do members of the audience handle patient confidentiality?

 

BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:

Implications for international collaboration and sharing of resources will be discussed as well.
