ABSTRACT:
Use of the PDA’s in
medical education seems very promising both for teachers and students. The
PDA-based intellectual remote control may be of interest for giving lectures in
lecture halls as well as giving presentations during sessions of distance
education
The aim of our project was to
develop the software for the Pocket PC with Wi-Fi capability that allows the
use of the PDA as an intellectual remote control and radio microphone. The
project has two levels.
Level 1 includes
development of the software that allows control of the PowerPoint presentation
on the lecture hall PC computer. The instructor uses the touch-sensitive screen
of the PDA to send commands using Wi-Fi that change slides backwards or
forward. At the same time the PDA receives a copy of the slides from the PC
computer and display on its own screen. So, teacher can see slides on PDA’s
screen while controlling the presentation using virtual buttons on the PDA.
Level 2 is a
development of fully wireless technology of presentations. The original
PowerPoint presentation is prepared on a PC computer. The software developed
will permit uploading of the modified version of PowerPoint presentation to the
PDA. During a presentation the teacher can see slides on the screen of the PDA
(with a resolution of PDA screen) and at the same time the images will be sent
to the Wi-Fi enabled projector in XGA resolution (1024 x 768 pixels). The voice
of the teacher will be transmitted via Wi-Fi link.
BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:
The presentation
(demonstration) would be of benefit for participants who are interested in use
of PDA’s and mobile technologies in the lecture hall, seminar room and for
distance education. This short presentation on one use of PDA’s in medical
education will be given using the developed Pocket PC software
