DEMONSTRATION
Mobile Broadcasting for the Web: do-it-yourself
Derek Cowan
ABSTRACT:
This demo will
provide a brief overview of issues and implementations involved with building a
truly mobile live broadcasting unit for encoded video over the web. On display
will be a mobile video broadcasting studio/unit designed for format-specific
(QuickTime, Real, Windows Media) live encoding/broadcasting over the Internet
and capture/storage of full-frame, full-resolution DV footage. Issues to be
discussed will involve the various hardware and software solutions
(encoding/storage workstation and software options, cameras, microphones, scan
conversion, video switching, etc.) combined in a self-contained and
"portable" system. Selection and configuration of components,
flexibility of the system, budget considerations, weight and shipping will be
discussed. Those looking to build a video encoding set-up or are interested in
live Internet broadcasting and options available
should attend.
BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:
Anyone interested in
the technology and equipment required to build a portable video broadcasting
unit for streaming video over the web. Those interested in a do-it-yourself
approach and have budget considerations will be presented with options and
alternatives to achieve this goal.
