ABSTRACT:
The mission of HEAL
(www.healcentral.org) is to provide educators with high-quality and free
multimedia teaching materials in the health sciences. As HEAL is building its
collection, it is of paramount importance to ensure its quality and to assist
users with finding the best and most useful materials for their teaching and
learning. The review process for evaluating HEAL content follows the model of
peer review of scholarship, and the process is currently being established,
including the development of peer review criteria, online reviewing tools, and
training to standardize the input from reviewers. Online review tools are being
developed in conjunction with MERLOT (Multimedia Education
Resource for Learning and Online Teaching).
This session will
provide a summary of the current status of the peer review process and
currently established review categories and criteria. The training modules and
the online review tools planned for use by Peer Review Board members will be
demonstrated.
