POSTER
medilingua.de: English for Medical Purposes
Petra Neumeier, M.A.
Ludwigs-Maximilians University, Munich, Germany
ABSTRACT:
medilingua.de is an
interdisciplinary research and development project at
Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich, Germany. English has firmly established
itself as the international language of medicine, bringing together native and
non-native speakers of English in many different medical cultures and contexts.
medilingua.de develops material to cater for the complex communicational needs
of non-native speakers working in medicine. Our methodology follows a Blended
Learning approach (BL), which carefully combines online and offline learning
scenarios and resources. Learners receive communication training in
face-to-face workshops and in PBL-based, online learning sessions in English.
Apart from training specialist vocabulary and language structures,
medilingua.de aims at sensitizing course participants so that they are able to
work successfully in an area in which intercultural communication skills are of
crucial importance. medilingua.de is a co-operation of CASUS and the Department
for English and American Language and Culture.
BENEFIT TO PARTICIPANTS ATTENDING SESSION:
The interdisciplinary
approach of medilingua.de integrates medicine, language, and multimedia. As a
result, it offers fascinating insights into the requirements of successful
communication for medical practitioners and educators alike. This presentation
will give you a brief overview of a Blended Learning medilingua course.
