For
the Welcome Dinner, we will greet you in the tropical "Café Palmenhaus" in the
middle of the city oasis of the castle grounds of Nymphenburg. The Café is 40 meters long
and has a 7 meter glass front on its southern side. Tables and chairs are located between
palm trees and other tropical plants. In summer, the terrace is bordered by a rose garden.

The "Palm House" is one of the greenhouses
that King Max I. had constructed in 1820, according to the plans of the inspired
landscape architect, F.L. Sckell. It is located in one building line with the "Iron
House" (constructed in 1807) and the current "Geranium House" (1816)
and, like these, is surrounded on its southern side by an ornamental garden. All three
buildings were numbered amongst the most modern of their age in Germany, doing justice to
the increased interest in botany during the early 19th century, in particular the King's
special love of tropical plants.
