COLOR
SET-UP FOR VIDEO MONITORS:
A 4-STEP METHOD
Display NTSC
Color Bars on your video monitor. You may use the Color Bars from the
following videodiscs: Frame #356 from Side 1 of Slice of Life (any edition).
Frame #4131 from Side 1 of Slice of Brain I. Frame #301 from Side 2 of
Slice of Brain I.
Step
1: Adjusting brightness
- Find the
video monitor's COLOR or CHROMA control.
- Adjust
it to reduce the color bars to a monochrome (black and white) image.
- Find the
video monitor's BRIGHTNESS control.
- Adjust
it until the BLACK COLOR BAR in the lower right of the frame no longer
appears with any grey, but just turns to pure black.
Step
2: Adjusting contrast
- Find the
video monitor's CONTRAST control.
- Adjust
it until the SHORT WHITE COLOR BAR in the lower left of the frame no
longer appears with any gray, but just turns to pure white.
Step
3: Adjusting color saturation
- Find the
video monitor's COLOR or CHROMA control (the same one used at the beginning
of STEP 1).
- Adjust
it until the saturation, purity, or color vibrancy of all the color
bars suits your taste.
Step
4: Adjusting hue
- Find the
video monitor's HUE or TINT control.
- Adjust
it until the YELLOW COLOR BAR (2nd from the left) and the MAGENTA COLOR
BAR (3rd from the right) look correct, i.e., a lemon yellow and a magenta
that's not too purple or blue. Only one setting really works. Yes, it
is subjective.
