Outreach Curriculum Options

The Nurse-Midwifery Program is dedicated to preparing nurses from health professional shortage areas in the underserved areas of Utah and the Intermountain West. A rural outreach curriculum option has been created to meet the needs of the rural nurse wishing to become a Certified Nurse-Midwife. The distance learning model provides theory and educational experiences using the rapidly developing technologies of telecommunications and individual interactive instruction (e.g. see Nutrition Module), a series of six intensive weeks (3 to 5 days each) in Salt Lake City, spaced throughout the program, and use of clinical sites closer to the rural student's home whenever possible, in addition to clinical experiences in Salt Lake City.
