• Grand Extravaganza in the Nation's First Capital •

SATURDAY, JUNE 28, 2003

The grand extravaganza is a tradition among “Slicers”.  After concentrating all week we always feature the local culture.  Being together provides a continued opportunity to network with your colleagues, so it is really part of the meeting, but we charge extra for it.  So be sure to make your return reservations for Sunday and NOT Saturday.  Late Sunday morning if you REALLY want to enjoy the Grand Event!

While we are still negotiating and trying to work out the logistics the current plan includes:

  • 1 p.m. Transportation from University City across the River

  • Picnic Lunch from a special Italian Delicatessen  eaten on the Schuylkill River, part of Fairmont Park

  • Option I: Hang out along the River at the Waterworks, walk along the river past boat house row or rent a bike and continue even farther.

  • Option II: Visit one of three museums within walking distance: Philadelphia Museum of Art, Rodin Museum, or Franklin Institute where you can also enjoy an IMAX movie or Planetarium in addition to the exhibits.

  • 4:30 or 5 p.m. bus pickup at Art Museum or Franklin Institute Science Museum

  • Followed by beer and soda at the Rock Lobster at Penn's Landing along the Delaware River

  • 7 p.m. Dinner in Chinatown at Joseph Poon’s Asian Fusion Restaurant

  • 9 p.m. Walk to the Independence Mall to begin Tour

  • Liberty Lights walking history, multimedia tour of historic area with lights and sound

  • 11 p.m. Bus to University City Dorm and Sheraton Hotel

  • Or….. Continue on your own to enjoy Jazz on South Street at Warm Daddy’s or Zanzibar Blues and get home on your own.
