The Eccles Health Sciences Library and University of Utah Department of Pediatrics have partnered to archive the Medical Home Portal and launch a new journal, Topical Reviews in Pediatrics (TRiP)

Initiated in 2001, the Medical Home Portal website aimed to improve the care of children with chronic conditions and special health care needs. Over the span of twenty years, the website grew tremendously, providing evidence-based clinical guidance for primary care of rare and common conditions, local and national resources for families and case managers to improve care, and support and information for families of children with complex care needs.
The website partnered with several states over the years to tailor resources and information to local settings. Start-up funding was provided by the Primary Children’s Medical Center Foundation, which allowed us to hire student programmers and begin creating the Portal. Early in the project’s history the Eccles Health Sciences Library provided a home for the programmer as well as staff who were expert in developing web-based resources to support medical education.
In 2024 the website was unexpectedly hacked and unable to be repaired without great expense to the Department of Pediatrics. The decision was made to archive the content through the Eccles Health Sciences Digital Publishing in collaboration with the University of Utah’s Department of Pediatrics and launch a new academic journal to continue to publish trustworthy medical information and original creative content for professionals and families to achieve the best possible outcomes for the health, well-being, and success of children and adolescents.
