Student Software Award

Each year, a $1,000 prize is awarded to a student (preference given to medical or graduate students) who has created an exceptional software application or program.  The purpose of the Student Software Award is to acknowledge how many of us are assisted and coached by students and would not have started or finished many projects without them.  Initially, awards were given to students who utilized the "Slice of Life" videodisc with their software.  However, this is no longer a requirement and it has been several years since we have even had a videodisc player at our meeting!  Formats include free standing, CD, Web, handheld or DVD programs.

The award is only for projects that are open to the world for general educational use.  This fits with the original philosophy of sharing resources for world wide medical education. The URL or CD must be submitted together with the completed application form and a supporting letter from the faculty advisor involved with the project explaining the student's role.  Also include how it has been used in the local environment, future plans, etc., anything that provides the judges with background, tech information, or evaluation data.  Make a distinction between what the faculty did and what the student did.

Students can be from any country and the program can be in any language.  Please encourage your students to apply and write a letter of support for them.  They do not have to attend the Slice of Life meeting in June to participate.  The program will be demonstrated at the meeting.  Please circulate this to appropriate faculty and students at your school.

It would be $1,000 for them and a good feeling for you.

Please NOTE: The deadline is June 1, 2007.
