Educational Computing Committee - School of Medicine, 2019-20 - University of Utah Health Sciences Center

Request for Proposals (2019 - 2020)
School of Medicine, University of Utah
Educational Computing Committee

The School of Medicine Educational Computing Committee (ECC) is calling for short proposals requesting funding for projects involving computers and related technology that will enhance student education.

Applications are limited to projects at the School of Medicine that benefit the education of tuition-paying students: undergraduate, graduate, or medical. Projects solely for the benefit of residents, post-doctoral fellows, staff, or faculty cannot be funded. Projects that benefit both students and non-students may receive partial funding, to cover the portion used by students.

Successful applications are those that promise to improve the teaching of core material in specific areas, that will be used or endorsed by the faculty, and that are linked to assessment. Students are busy and ignore purely supplemental material, no matter how advanced the equipment or sophisticated the software.

Requests can be made for equipment and commercial software, such as computers, digital cameras, specialized instructional software packages.

The purchase of classroom equipment, such as LCD projectors, is supported separately by the University's Teaching and Learning Portfolio and will not be considered by the ECC. Salaries, computers for faculty, and database subscriptions cannot be supported. If you are not sure about the suitability of an item, you should check before submitting a request, see below*.

Note that funds for educational projects (Teaching Grants) can also be obtained from the University Teaching Committee:

Evaluation of Proposals

The funding for these projects comes entirely from a request the Vice President submits to the University's Teaching and Learning Portfolio committee (TLP), which administers money collected campus-wide from student fees. The ECC prepares this request. The TLP evaluates and supports requests based on their likelihood of enhancing student education.

*If you have questions about the appropriateness of a proposal, please e-mail Dr. Kathryn Moore (kathryn.moore@neuro.utah.edu) before applying.
