Director's Welcome

Catherine B. Soehner Welcome to the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library! The library offers extensive resources and services to support education, research, and patient care. The libraries' faculty and staff are honored to assist you as you discover the many terrific ways to retrieve, analyze, and store what you need to be effective at your job or while you are learning.

The library provides access to thousands of electric journals and research databases that are available 24/7. We can access other library collections through our interlibrary loan service. Navigate to our library catalog, the master tool for finding items.

The library supports learning and research through custom classes, consultations, and systematic review evidence synthesis. Our Ask a Librarian page offers immediate access to library support via chat and provides alternate methods of contacting us for help or partnership.

You can also browse our many digital publishing & collections, including a review of Dr. Hashimoto's life and contributions and the Utah Women's Health Review. As you explore the website, you can see that we provide news on our front page, including recent articles from our blog. Time sensitive information is posted on Instagram and Facebook.

One of our many goals is to create partnerships on campus to continue innovations in education, research, and patient care. We collaborate with the Center for Clinical & Translational Science to provide a Systematic Review Core to assist with performing high-quality evidence synthesis projects. We work with departments and faculty throughout the Health Sciences campus to develop unique projects and collections, such as the Moran CORE (with the Moran Eye Center), Neuroanatomy Video Lab: Brain Dissections (with Neurobiology & Anatomy), and Discovery and Innovation at University of Utah Health

Eccles Library serves as the Regional Medical Library (RML) for Region 4, which provides programs, services, and dedicated support for the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) Members in Arizona, Idaho, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. EHSL is also home to the NNLM's National Training Office, which serves the training coordination needs for all RMLs, Offices & Centers, and the public across all 50 states and territories.

The library is recognized locally and nationally as a leader of intellectual exploration and as a catalyst for innovative discovery. It hosts digital collections and publishing platforms including NOVEL the Neuro-Ophthalmology Virtual Education Library and UtahDERM, an open-access dermatology education resource. The library supports experiential learning through the assistance of technology such as virtual reality and 3D printing.

We empower you to consider the libraries your home away from home and let us know how we can help you. We look forward to hearing from you and becoming partners in your endeavors. Make us your most trusted source of quality health information!
